FAQs

It’s natural to have questions at the beginning of the process – and we do what we can to come armed with the answers! Here are some of the more common queries that come our way. Can’t find what you were looking for? Just get in touch and we’ll be more than happy to help.

Where are meetings held?

Meetings are typically held at our office but can be arranged at your home on request. Alternatively, we’re happy to come to your place of work or your accountant/solicitor’s office if it’s more convenient.  We are also more than happy to hold meetings virtually via Teams or Zoom if that is more appropriate.

Do you have parking?

There is one space for a vehicle in front of the office, but there is additional car parking around Poynton. There are both short stay (limit 2hrs) and long stay (no limit) car parks a short distance away at the Waitrose store, with a closer car park behind the Pharmacy opposite the office (you are able to park 1 ½ hours before it becomes chargeable).

Do I have to pay for an initial meeting?

No, this is held at our expense.

What do I need to bring to an initial meeting?

This can vary but copies of plans, savings, and bank statements that we may discuss would be helpful. Any paperwork you think might be relevant is worth bringing along.

How long should I allow for an initial meeting?

We recommend leaving up to two hours, although most meetings wrap up well within this time.

How can I book an initial meeting?

Just give us a call or email us at info@stratagemfp.co.uk. You’re also welcome to pop into the office if you’re passing by!

Are you independent?

Yes. As an independent financial planning firm, we aren’t restricted in terms of the products and solutions we can recommend, instead we have access to whole of market.

Are you regulated?

Yes, we are regulated and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). You can view our entry on the FCA register here.

What do you charge for a financial plan?

This will vary depending on the advice needed and the complexity of the work. We will always discuss costs with you before you agree to anything.

Do you take a percentage or are your fees fixed?

We charge a percentage of the funds under management.

Do you get commission?

As independent advisers commission is not payable on investment and pension advice. Commission only applies to insurance plans, such as life cover and critical illness plans. Where commission is payable this will be disclosed to you before proceeding.

Do you charge VAT?

No.

Can you advise on final salary/defined benefit transfers?

We do not offer advice on final salary/defined benefit transfers.  We can however give you details of other firms who offer advice in this specialised area.

What happens if my financial planner is away on holiday?

We’ll never leave you stranded! If you need anything, please call the office and one of our support team will be able to assist you. If urgent financial advice is required, we’ll ensure another adviser is on hand to help.
